I think it is something that should certainly be investigated and given consideration. If the merged resources of both associations show the potential to be of greater benefit to members, and increase our position in dealing with other bodies within our industry, then it would seem to make sense. If thats not the case, then a careful review of our operations is still something we should consider. Would like to hear opinions from both sides of the argument to ensure all factors are considered |

I AM IN TOTAL AGREEMENT THAT BIGGA SHOULD AT LEAST INVESTIGATE THE INS AND OUTS OF A MERGER, MY ONLY CONCERN IS THAT WE DONT LOSE OUR IDENTITY. |

I think it could be good for both organisations.Give us more of a voice within the industry. If we can reduce the amount of trade shows as well that would be a benefit after all with 3 trade shows currently falling between september & january not everyone is able to support them all. And who knows we might even be able to reduce the admin costs at HQ. |

If BIGGA can't afford to stand on its own feet and be self supportive then I believe we need to re-structure from within.Let's live within our means and if we need to seek out extra funding can we not improve our links with the R&A for example and keep golf at the forefront of our identity. I have worked hard to become an established Course Manager and I feel that any monies that either I or my employer pay in to an Association should be exclusively put towards the well-being and development of golf and greenkeepers.Without any doubt,a merger with the IOG would dilute our direction and goals and although financial security may be achieved, the resulting outcome would be detramental to golf and greenkeeping. Let's keep it exclusive! |
